Did you do something today that made you happy?

Well I certainly hope so!!!

My daughter and I stayed inside and watched movies together..

and then when sweet husband came home from work

we all went out to find a thrift store that I find on

this really cool website my girlfriend Ann found....

The Thrift Shopper

you just enter your zip code and state and it gives you

thrift stores in your area!

Now I consider myself to be up on all the local thrift stores...

however...there was a new one I passed every day and I

had no idea it was there!

So we went on the hunt!

And I found this really cute silver trophy bowl...

for only $3.00!

After that we went grocery shopping

now normally that's a big chore..

but I needed a few things from Whole Foods...

and I LLLLLOOOOVVVVVEEEE

their fresh flower area!

So I treated myself to these beautiful

Vintage Blue Hydrangeas...

and wouldn't you know they fit perfectly in

the new silver bowl!

It's made me completely

heart skipping a beat happy...

not sure if it's because I had a great day with my

family, or I found a great find, maybe it's the beautiful flowers,

or the fact that just looking at them reminds me of

my good friend Ann who started this whole adventure

because she took a moment out of her day to

think of me and sent the website to me....

and I in turn ended up buying her favorite flower

purely by accident and it fit into the bowl I found

because of her.....

I guess what i'm trying to say here is....

when you do something or say something

you may never fully grasp the

effect you may have on someone....

good or bad....

but if your words are kind...

....your intentions true....

and you do it with love in your heart...

odds are good that you

will make someone else

heart skipping a beat happy!

I truly hope you did something today that made you happy
and that you only had kind words for those around you!
While it might not always be easy...don't we really owe it
to those around us...and especially to ourselves!

I was going to resale this....WAS being the word!

Well I was able to sneak another

piece of furniture by sweet husband...

kinda...sorta....

he just shook his head

like... here she goes again

Two weekends ago I ran by a church garage sale

and saw this beauty...and I walked away!

Because do I really need another dresser?

However I just couldn't stop thinking

about this poor dresser

being all alone and not having a home.

It was in really rough shape...so I thought...well

maybe I can clean it up, paint it and resale it....

find it a good home where it will be loved!

I mean really...it was only $20.00...so no big risk right!?

Yep...it found a home alright...

in my living room!

And i'm not even going to paint it...

I cleaned it, waxed it and polished it up...

and I love it!

Can you believe I was thinking of painting it?

So glad I didn't!!

I just need to find replacement handles..

but even without them I love this piece!

Oh....and i've put the shelves back in the dining area

and stripped the paint off the top of the table

I bet sweet husband cringes every evening

when he goes to open the front door...

he probably never knows

what he will find!

Butterflies and Birds...Oak Tree Centerpiece

I know Easter has come and gone...

but I wanted to show you what

I did with the centerpiece

for our Easter Brunch.

It's not Easter

specific...you could use

it for Mother's Day,

Birthday's, Showers

Etc.

I apologize that the pictures are

not that great...it's hard to take

pictures on our back porch...

Sweet husband removed a large branch

from one of the oak trees

(it was hanging over the roof and had to be removed

anyway...no oaks were harmed in the making of this)

He then tied it with a zip tie to the existing hook

hanging from the ceiling....underneath is a

large sheet of florist Styrofoam that the base

of the branch is pushed into.

Then I just went wild...

hanging butterflies, birds and nest everywhere

At the base I covered the Styrofoam with green

and grey moss...to try and resemble the base of

a woodland forest...

Then I added the glittered mushrooms the kids

had made...and more butterflies!

Mushroom and bird glittering...in the process!

It was sooooo messy!

But I think it was worth it..

I don't think the pictures do it justice...

it was much prettier and bigger in person

It was a low cost....Big Impact centerpiece

Honestly the biggest cost was the butterflies..

I was able to get them 1/2 off so I probably

only spent $15 on them.

And I will have them again for next year!

You could do lots of things with this concept...

Take your branch and you could

hang....lanterns, lights, fruit, tags with

quotes or words on them, or flowers.

It would be cute for a dinner party to hang

trivia questions or conversation starters.

as long as you are consistent with the colors,

and style of whatever you are using it

will turn out cute as opposed to tacky!

Alright...i'm off to clean and polish a

dresser that I picked up this morning

because it had no home and begged

for me to give it one...

well at least that's what I heard it say

Shutter Benches and Checkerboard Patio

Okay...so do you remember awhile back

when I told you all that sweet husband

had come across alot of green shutters?

And I promised to show you what he did with them...

well it took awhile but here it is

He built beautiful benches for the garden with all the shutters

And then he was sweet enough to build me a
checkerboard paver and grass patio for them to sit on!

I made pretty white ruffled pillows to go on the benches

Excuse the overgrown grass...we are waiting as long as we can
for it to fill in before we cut it tomorrow...
just in time for Easter egg hunting!!!

We are so happy with the way it turned out...
I have to admit that I wanted to
spray the benches white..imagine that!
But he said we should leave them the lovely
vintage green that they were.
And lordy no one tell him this...but he was
absolutely right..they are perfect green!

Easter Pails and Bunny Noses

Well the Easter pails

are finally finished!

This year I used the pails as

an excuse to buy the

Cricut Machine...

Now doesn't that sound

logical to you...

$1.00 sand pails + a $300 Cricut machine =

Very expensive plastic buckets!

Sweet husband bought the logic

and that's all that matters...

Yellow for the gentlemen...

And pink for the little ladies...

And then because the Cricut was on a roll....

Pink Bunny Noses

I found the jars at Michael's Craft Store...

bought baby pink jelly beans from a candy wholesale company...

used the handy dandy Cricut to make labels

And there you have baby bunny noses in a jar...

Now if you will excuse me

I need to go make a few dozen butterflies...

You know that Cricut machine

needs to earn it's keep!

Fairy Ring

What is a Fairy Ring????

Well growing up we always

knew the answer to that...

anytime my Sister and I would

spot a ring of mushrooms our

Mother would tell us that Fairies

had visited us in the middle of the night!

And each mushroom was a seat for one

fairy...and they would laugh and dance

with each other all night long...until the

morning came and then all that was left

was the mushrooms!

Wikipedia defines a Fairy Ring as this...

A fairy ring, also known as fairy circle, elf circle, elf ring [1] or pixie ring, is a naturally occurring ring or arc of mushrooms. The rings may grow to over 10 metres (33 ft) in diameter, and they become stable over time as the fungus grows and seeks food underground. They are found mainly in forested areas, but also appear in grasslands or rangelands. Fairy rings are detectable by sporocarps in rings or arcs, as well as by a necrotic zone (dead grass), or a ring of dark green grass.

If these manifestations are visible a fairy fungus mycelium is likely to be present in the ring or arc underneath.

Fairy rings also occupy a prominent place in European folklore as the location of gateways into elfin kingdoms, or places where elves gather and dance. According to the folklore, a fairy ring appears when a fairy, pixie, or elf appears. It will disappear without trace in less than five days, but if an observer waits for the elf to return to the ring, he may be able to capture it.

Well since this Easter i'm going with a Woodland Theme...

and I subscribe to the philosophy of if you build it they will come...

I asked sweet husband if he could

make me concrete mushroom seats

for the garden and of course the children.

He thought about it for a week..came up

with a way to do it and got straight to work

So here are sweet husband's 7 concrete mushrooms that form

our garden's Fairy Ring...

The morning after St. Patrick's Day we woke up

to find green leprechaun glitter everywhere..

guess it's not just the fairies who get use

out of the new mushrooms...

We even have a fairy door on the Oak tree...because you know

they prefer to gather around Oak trees...

And because I just can't stand it any longer...

here is a sneak peek at the other project we've

had going on...

Falling off the face of the earth...

I swear...as some people have asked

I have not fallen off the face of the earth!

I just needed to fix some things...

myself..our house...our garden....

you know stuff!

I joined a gym...

the scale and I came to an impasse...

it said I was way over my limit

I told it that it was full of lies...

unfortunately the scale was right..

so the gym is where I have spent

most of my time for over a month now

The children needed reeling in...homework

was in a disarray...things were out of line...

so that's where another portion went.

And last but not least...the yard was horrible!

So with Easter coming up....

I was motivated!!!!!

BIG TIME!

So here is the first in a long line

of garden updates...

We cleaned up the glass house...

and added two green shutters

that hold sconces

And sweet husband built me a bench out of

an old headboard and footboard...

just need to add a few pillows

Then he took me antiquing down on Dixie Highway
near Palm Beach and we found this great old rug...

So once the glass house was in order we
moved on...to making a fairy ring
around the oak tree...

Raindrops and Boots...

Raindrops kept falling on my head...

I finally bought rain boots!

Valentine's Day coming up

And a cute scarf to tie them in with my purse...

Five straight days of rain...and today sunshine..of course!

Now i'm going to do a little rain dance

and hope for rain so I can wear them again!

Burlap and Muslin Patchwork Board

Looking through the Pottery Barn Kids

magazine the other day I fell in love with

the wall they did with patches of fabric

did you see it?

Isn't that so cute

Well I came across this corkboard for $5 at

Goodwill yesterday...and I had a thought...

bet I could do like PBK but on a smaller scale

I took left over fabric and cut it into squares...

and stapled them onto the corkboard

Then made a little banner for Valentines

and strung it across..

I had to fix the middle square with the fleur de lis..

because I tried to spray adhesive it and it left a mark.

So don't do that!

Such a quick and cheap project...

And it turned out so cute~

I know I promised to show you the redecoration of the

Glass house...but it's done nothing but rain here and

I can't seem to get good pictures in this dreary weather

But I promise as soon as it stops raining i'll show you!

Weekend Find

Saturday sweet husband

was extra sweet and took me

down to Dixie Highway to thrift...

It's not a place I like to go by myself

it always makes me laugh when i'm

reading a magazine and they mention

how decorators like to fly down to Palm Beach

and shop for finds on Dixie Highway!

Really???

Okay I guess...but I hope you bring a friend.

Anyways I bring sweet husband who fights the traffic

for me and parks (cause that's the worst part) and lets

me hop out and go search while he waits.

Alright enough chit chat...on to the good stuff!

Guess what I found??

I almost ran across the store to get to this....

Isn't this lantern AWESOME!!!!

And here's the best part...I only paid

$12.95

Can you believe it...I almost fell over!

It's huge!

And not only was sweet husband so sweet to take me

thrifting...he was REALLY SWEET to give

up his ceiling fan in the bedroom.

Although I do think he cried a bit when he took it down

I am so thrilled with my weekend find...

We also spent the weekend cleaning up

and redecorating the glass house!

White New Year...

One of the things I want to accomplish in

the house this year is to return to the crisp whites...

things have been getting a little dark around here lately.

I don't want to turn everything into white...because

I just love the contrast of white against dark...but

somethings need to be lightened up

So of course I start with the one that freaks me

out the most to paint....the table we eat at!

Did you notice the shelves are missing?

I got it in my head that we needed

another chalkboard....

Anyways...I think it's a nice change

but I may go back to the shelves soon.

One thing every day

New Years Resolutions....

I usually end up breaking them by the 7th day

it's not that I don't try I really do...but sometimes they

just seem to be such a big task that I just can't seem to

rise to the challenge!

So this year I have decided to make a resolution

that isn't hard and is nothing but a pleasure to fulfil

I will do one thing every day that makes me happy!

Whether it be nothing more than putting a little extra

creamer in my coffee...just one moment to savor

and be happy! I think I can handle this....

Today I came across a note that

my Granny had written to sweet husband and I

over 12 years ago...every time I come across it I smile.

So I thought...why not frame it and hang it up so that

it makes me smile everyday?

Ten minutes later...I couldn't be happier if I had won the lottery!

My Granny was an amazing person!

She was so giving yet she couldn't be taken advantage of

She was talented but she was very humble

She could speak her mind and give you advice

without you feeling like she was preaching to you

She taught me to trust in myself and love everyone...

to have enough confidence to speak my mind

because I matter just as much as the next person

So when I see this note it makes me happy...

just like her to say this...

"No matter what road life takes you on

you can never say I don't have a dime to my name"

While she may have mixed a little

humour in her message with the dime...

I do laugh when I read it but i'm also very thankful

Because it's a reminder that no matter how little or much you may have...

you should always be grateful for what the good lord has blessed you with.

Even if it's no more than a dime!

I hope you all find time to do one thing

every day that makes you happy....

New Years Eve Cocktail Party

New Years Eve came early at this house...

My friend Ann is co-chair

of the magazine for

The Junior League of the Palm Beaches.

For the holiday issue they wanted

to do a New Years Eve Cocktail Party

using the recipes from their two cookbooks,

Worth Tasting and Palm Beach Entertains.

And so she asked me to put together a cocktail party

and photograph it...right up my alley...I had

so much fun doing this.

You've all heard me talk about my

girlfriend Sondra.

Well I REALLY wanted you

to see her house decorated for Christmas...

so I begged and pleaded and she let

me take pictures to share with you...

(Just Kidding I really didn't have to beg...she is so sweet)

So here we go....

Here is the front entrance

Front Staircase..

make sure you notice the

ceiling...it's awesome.

The banister is done in garland with lights.

At every swag and the front post is a

small arrangement of poinsettias and gold sprays.

Just perfect...very classic!

Trees flank the mirror on the entry way table...

the ornaments on this tree are absolutely stunning!

I love this ornament...it's gorgeous

Beautiful Dragonfly..

This is the tree in the guest suite...
now no one say a word to her
but if this one ever goes missing
there will be no need to check my house
because I didn't do it...nope wasn't me!

If you can't tell this is my favorite tree in
the whole house...

Seriously though...it would be hard to
pick a favorite. Everyone of the trees
is impeccable! They are all well thought out
and the ornaments are placed just right.
The colors and themes flow seamlessly
with the style and decor of the home.
Just perfect!

At the very least this starfish is gonna go missing...
....just kidding!

Pinterest Obsessed

They say the first step to recovery is

admitting you have a problem...right?

Well....

I think I may need an intervention!

Pinterest is controlling my life....

it's all I do...well except for

cooking the recipes I find on Pinterest

or making the craft I saw on Pinterest..

or.....well you get the idea!

This week alone...my obsession has created

Salt Dough Gift Tags

1/2 cup of salt
1 cup of flour
1/2 cup warm water

Mix ingredients together
Roll out dough
cut into desired shape...make a hole for hanging
stamp with ink
Bake at 250 for 2 hours

While i'm satisfied with the way they turned out

I now want to buy white clay from the craft store

and give that a try also...

Onto the Food...

We made this for dinner....

Postcard Sheets...my big splurge

I am embarrassed to even admit

this...but I haven't bought new sheets

for my bed in about 13 years!

Now don't get all freaked out...

I have a very good mother-in-law

who buys us new sheets every Christmas...

beautiful white ones!

But ....

when I saw these sheets at Pottery Barn

I knew I just had to get them...

even though it was a big splurge

for me...I couldn't help it!

I am totally in LOVE with them...

I was practically stalking the UPS

man waiting for him to get here

with them

I can't say sweet husband loves them as much as I do

...they are a bit girly for him...

but it's only for Christmas...and maybe

January and February...just don't tell him that

I changed out the black and white curtains

and lamps for white and neutral colors.

Now I can't wait to put up the bedroom Christmas tree..

However, I guess I really should iron the curtains...

I was just too impatient last night

to get the room put back together.

Tea and Tastings

There has been lots of things

going on around here...

Today I finally have a

chance to take a break...

So I thought it would

be a good time to blog!

My girlfriend Ann and I

recently had the opportunity

to set a table for the

Junior League of the Palm Beaches

annual Tea and Tastings event.

This years theme was

Tea through the ages....

This was our table....we choose the theme
"Le Jardin de Josephine"
We wanted you to feel like you were
actually in her garden having tea.

This is the backside of our centerpiece.....

notice the red rose napkins.....they

were super easy to do.

Ann even ordered Harney and Son's

rose tea....it was what we drank for the tea....

and we gave tea bags as favors in pretty

little boxes with a sweet quote tied to it.

The table top was covered completely in moss.

A little hint if you ever decide to do this...

when numerous people comment about the

~~odor~~ fragrance and you see someone with a

Lysol can spraying around your table...

make sure you proclaim very loudly for

all to hear...that you made sure to buy

the most fragrant moss you could find

because you really wanted everyone to not

only feel like they were in a garden...

but smell it as well!

Never Ever Admit The Smell Was A Bit Overwhelming...

NEVER!!!!

We even made little books with the history of the

house Josephine shared with Napoleon!

Did I mention this was also a contest?

There were three categories

1. Best Interpretation of Theme

2. Most Creative

3. Best Centerpiece

And did I mention we didn't win any of them....

that's okay...i'm coming back next year to

swept all three...not that i'm competitive...

not at all...it's just for charity and it's fun....

ummmm yeah...that's it!

This table won best interpretation of theme...

"The Gilded Age"

Apparently the china they used was one of

the rarest patterns out there...it was gorgeous.

They even brought their own butler...i'm

guessing he was more like a bodyguard

for the super rare and expensive china!

This was the winner for best centerpiece...

and I guess when you have a full on tree

in the middle of your table...you're gonna win!

Their theme was Maria Antoinette.

I didn't take a picture of the most creative...

but it was cute...it was from the Mod Period

and was very colorful with a lamp in the middle

and vases everywhere....

Here are a few other tablescapes...

I liked this one because I loved the silver branches..

and the napkin rings were bracelets...so cute.

They did a Channel theme.

Very pretty with the mismatched china.

I wish I had taken more pictures...it was

just so crazy and overwhelming in there...

or maybe it was just the moss fumes!

Seriously though....Ann and I had

a lot of fun doing the table....and

I can't wait till next year!

Hope you can all forgive my lack of postings this month!

We are working on changing over

our internet, phone and cable services...

and this is taking much more time than I thought it would.

Right now I am perched on a wooden chair at our

Starbucks...being grateful for their free internet service

So, since today is Halloween I wanted to

show you our Halloween House that the kids

and I decorated this month.....

Remember our theme this year was

Edgar Allen Poe's poem

The Raven

This is the mantle...

I took an old book and double sided taped the pages

to the front of the mantle and then ripped the bottoms off

I think it turned our really spooky and deserted looking

Our specimen and potion cabinets

Raven feather quills...to write another spooky poem with

in case Edgar Allen Poe's ghost decides to visit us one dark night

A raven guarding it's eggs...

And of course we did our shadow tree again this year.

Somehow it grew out of control this year...I just kept

adding branches and a lantern that lights up at night

Halloween Hijack

The Pineappleroom has been hijacked by her ~~much~~ younger sister! We are all fans of Amy's lovely creativity! I was proud of her attempt at a spooky porch this year for Halloween. However, you see in this family, I am the Queen of Halloween (self proclaimed of course)!

A few years back I realized there was no competing with Amy for Christmas decor so I decided I would excel at Halloween. So I am taking her blog to post some of my own pictures (bare with me I get excited)! Every year my Halloween displays grow a little more (much to my dear husbands dismay at clean up time). Not only do my parents help tremendously but I am also encouraged by our daughter who shares my love of Halloween. When I first started she was only two years old so to make things less scary we began naming our "characters."

"Boo Boo" Our Skeleton.

This year may be my favorite spot for him so far!!

And our famous "Uncle Frank"

It was cute when our daughter was little and would tell strangers every October how we got Uncle Frank out of his plastic bag in the garage. However, now she is in school and every day I wait patiently for the proper authorities to come to my door and investigate...

My son is new to this this year. He was one week too "late" to enjoy the festivities last year. I'm proud to say he is already showing his excitement for the Holiday. And once I get him to stop eating the decorations he'll be a great helper!!

(Don't worry no real bats were harmed in the making of this post)

I will try to post more pictures after our annual Halloween Party. As soon as I figure out the new passwords since I'm sure Amy will be changing them this weekend!

Halloween Front Porch

We are finally finished decorating the
front porch for Halloween!
The kids wanted to go spooky this year
so we went with a theme....

I think this picture is spooky cause
it's getting dusky dark outside...this is the view from
inside my front door

This is a vintage 1920's baby carriage
that we found in Sea Island...

It is just so creepy...

Sweet husband and his Dad
made the gate out of scrap aluminum metal...
he modeled it after the one in the Pottery Barn Catalog

Can't wait for the grapevine leaves to turn brown
and add to the creepy effect.

Pretty Bird...

Putting this porch together cost under

$20.00! Can you believe it...

I shopped the dollar store for the birds

(except the big one in the cage..i've had him for years)

the grey cloths and the rat also came from the dollar store.

My Dad pulled the grapevine out of his trees for me,

and Sweet Husband cut down the dead branches!

Everything else I pulled from the house...

lanterns, columns, birdcage...etc

Now if I could just get that gate to creak when
you open it i'd be all set!

Next post...we'll go inside the house....

Playing Halloween dress-up

If you've hung around me long enough

then you know how much I love

to dress up on Halloween!

Yes...

I will admit I am one of those mother's

at the school Halloween parade

in full costume! Because really....

if you can't have fun with the kids on Halloween

then what good is Halloween?

I have the best sister in law in the world...

all I do is tell her who I want to be and

she whips it right up for me!

She even made my hat.

The year before that I was

the movie Breakfast at Tiffany's

The thing I love best about dressing up

is that the kids are learning
and they don't even realize it...

one year I dressed as Jackie Kennedy..right down to

an authentic Vote for Kennedy button that the kids

and I found on ebay...they learned a lot of history that year!

And the year of Scarlett we researched
the time period and the war..

with Audrey we focused on her life
and her charitable work with UNICEF

Now this year is already in the works...and i'm keeping it a secret

but let's just say it has something to do with literature!
The kids are wanting to be a Jedi and a Spider Princess
respectively...think I can work those into a lesson???
By the way...just what is a Spider Princess??

Garage Sale Saturday

Don't you just love a good garage sale!

Well...our fairgrounds has one every so often

and it's my favorite...because it's not just

a bunch of junk...you can find some pretty good stuff!

I can't even begin to tell you how excited I was to

find this Silver French Fireplace screen!

This was the second time that I had run across it...

the first time I let sweet husband talk me out of buying it!

And then of course it's all I could think about for months after...

I guess it was just meant to come home with me..

because the lady still had it for sale...

can you believe no one had bought it!

These 4 prints are completely different then

anything in my house...but I thought they were

really interesting!

This is only two of them..the other two are similar

Now if only I had a Library in my house

decorated in English Hunting design i'd be all set!

But I like them...so i'll find a spot for them...somewhere

Now this print fits in here just perfect...and I have a spot for it

And we're back to the English library look...

i'm really starting to wonder if my taste are changing again?

Anyways....I thought this leather bag was really beautiful

and had a lot of storage potential!

You just never know what will strike your

interest at a garage sale...

One thing always leads to another

Sorry i've been MIA lately...

I realized it had been to long

when my Dad asked me if I had

given up the blog....Opps

With school starting, buying a car,

going away for the holiday...blah blah blah

the weeks flew by me!

Anyways....we've been very busy around here!

It's funny how one little thing can lead to another...

Well I guess in this instance I don't mean little...

I mean HUGE....

While we were away in Sea Island this month

my girlfriend Sondra spotted this at an Antique Show...

She really has the knack for finding cool stuff!

I love my Christmas present...Thanks Sondra!!!

My girlfriends Sondra, Ann and I had a great time

"stealing" sweet husbands truck and going to pick

this up from the show....Girl Power!!!

Even though Ann (who was brave enough to drive the big truck)

said.....let's hope this is a straight shot...

there will be no backing up or parking of this truck!

Don't you just love girlfriends who stick with you and help

you carry out crazy schemes...no matter what!

Well once we got it back to Florida I realized it needed a

great spot...which lead to us looking around the yard

and realizing it really needed some serious help.

So begin the 2 week process of cleaning up and cleaning out!

Then while at Ikea....I stumbled across these beauty's...

For $14.99 you can't beat these lanterns..they
are awesome! And I just knew I wanted to
place them on the back steps!
Well wouldn't you know it...but when I went
to put them out there I realized the back steps
had rotted and were caving in so they
needed to be replaced.. to work sweet husband went.

While I love the shabby look of them right now...they are
going to be sanded and stained to match
the existing surrounding wood.
But for now...I few pumpkins and flowers won't hurt!

And do you remember the shutters
that sweet husband brought home?

Well he did something really cool with them...

I would show you but my mother claimed the first one

and loaded it up in her truck before I could even take a picture!

But he's building more for me to put in the garden

and I promise to show you soon!

So you see how one thing can lead to another....

But the good news is the back porch and yard

are finally getting some well needed TLC.

Just in time for (fingers crossed)

some lovely fall weather!
