Inspirations and Favorites~Music

Summer is quickly coming to a close
and that will bring...kids back to school
(a dirty word in our house at the moment)
and of course after that will follow holidays
which bring out the festivities in all of us...

so until then...
I thought it would be fun
to share things that inspire me
and/or my favorite things.
Hopefully you will all leave comments with what
inspires you or your favorite things...so we can
all share and learn from each other
For instance this picture is from one of
my favorite moments of this summer...
it was taken at my favorite place in all the world.
But more about that on a later post...
today we are talking about music!

(tripadvisor.com)

Nothing sets the mood quite like the music...

One type of music that makes me the happiest is the
steel drums...maybe it's because it represents
relaxation...and of course the beach.
(floridaflorida.org)
If you've ever been to my house
you know you will be sick of Jimmy Buffett
music by the time you leave!
Actually I never realized how some sort of music is
always playing in our house till a good friend
was over one day and I didn't have it on...
and she asked where the music was.
How funny...
I never realized how music was always playing until then!

Normally, I have playing what my husband
likes to refer to as...."Silence of the Lambs" music
(yes he gets a big kick out of his humour)
(performingarts.georgetown.edu)

I absolutely ADORE
Yo-Yo Ma...
and Bach...
and Beethoven...
and well you get the idea!
I actually think I make better dinners
when I cook while listening to this...okay well maybe not..
but the atmosphere is really cool...

My list of favorite artist and albums is very long...
I love just about everything...from the 20's till now..
so I won't bore you with that list.

However...I did want to share with you
some of the new albums that have
caught my attention this summer.
You would have almost had to have been living
under a rock to have missed Adele...
My son says he will have to leave
if he hears Rolling In The Deep
one more time...guess I play it too
much and probably way to loud
for his taste...

This is a very interesting album...
a little bit country...a little bit jazzy..
and a little rock and roll
worth a listen to.
I love the song "Bound for Glory"...
makes me want to catch a train
and I don't even know why but
head for Memphis????

This is a another really cool new album...
while they are playing Cello..and I
understand that may not be your thing..
they are doing it while performing some
of your favorite hit songs...very interesting..
and I kinda like it...haven't played it
for sweet husband yet...I can ONLY
imagine what he will say about them
playing Nirvana...cause in his eyes
you just don't mess with that...
and I probably couldn't even repeat
his words on here.
But I like it!

If you do nothing else
(except listen to Adele and Ray LaMontagne)
you have to hear this album....
It's called Barton Hollow
and it's by The Civil Wars
A very beautiful album

"Music takes us out of the actual
and whispers to us dim secrets
that startle our wonder as to who we are,
and for what, whence, and whereto"
~Ralph Waldo Emerson

Remember....it's not all about the design and the decor...
Music sets a mood, a memory, a meal,
a moment in time....

I hope you always have a song playing in your
home and in your heart!

So tell me what song speaks to you?

Love this house

There is this house around the corner
from where my girlfriend Kerri
lives that I am in
LOVE with...
so when I visited her recently
we drove by to see it
and wouldn't you know
it was all decked out
for the Fourth of July

Just looking at all those flags and banners makes me happy!
Can't even imagine what it looks like for other holidays...
I bet they go all out!

Happy Friday!!!

Finding a home...Part 2

One thing I always get asked
by friends, family and even the
people I buy from...is....
Where are you going to put that?
or
What are you going to do with that?
And I usually answer...
ummm I have no idea!
I just buy what I love
 (if it's in my budget)
and it somehow always fits
right in somewhere....

HOWEVER,
I bought this piece knowing exactly
what I wanted to do with it and where I wanted to put it..
That was my first mistake!

Isn't it beautiful sitting so pretty on the middle of my table...
Well.....to bad it stinks to high heaven...
It smells like a campfire/burnt wood
And i'll be honest, I knew when I bought it that
it had an odor...but I thought a couple of weeks
on the back porch airing out would fix it.
NOT!!!
So if any of you know how I can get the odor
to disappear please let me know.
Until then...I guess it will just have
to go on the back porch....boo hoo

Soni and I found these pretty corbels with just
the perfect amount of shabbiness to them.
So I hung them going into my kitchen....
Thanks to Kerri for the idea..

I've wanted a french bottle drying rack forever!
And i'm so excited that I found one in my budget,
it's a reproduction...but that's okay with me...
I love it!

Cute little planters...just right for silverware!

We found 3 of these wooden trays...what do
you suppose they were used for?
They had shipping tags on them from France...
do you think they dried herbs or something on it?

I placed one on each top shelf of the bookcases in
the dining area....just to bring in the browns
and a bit of texture

I took out the over sized to big for this space
brown bookcase that I had found at Goodwill
and brought back in a piece I had stored in the
garage...I think it fits much better...
and I placed the metal letter "d" on it
that I purchased from
The Paris Market in Savannah, GA

Sweet Shadow Box....
thought it would be neat for
the kids to place their weekly
seashell finds from the beach in it...

Love the quote...

And last but not least....
Kerri and I found 2 metal letters
at Scott's Antique Market...
One for my son and one for hers...
just doesn't get any more meant to be than that..

The reason that i've shown you all of this
is not to brag or boast about what I found
on my summer adventures....
But to show you that if you buy only things
that speak to you and that
you truly love....you can always find
a special spot in your home for it....
no matter how small or how big it is!
Unless of course it stinks to high heaven...
then you need to put it outside...
Ha Ha

Finding a home...Part 1

All the summer "finds" have
now been unpacked
 and they have each now
found a home in the house...

Well at least their home for now...
we all know that nothing stays
in the same spot around here
for too long!

First up...
this humongous lantern that
my girlfriend Soni spotted from a mile away!
It is just the perfect lantern for this space...she and I
have been searching long and hard for this piece!

Another piece that she spotted right away and knew would be
perfect for my house...she really has a great eye

Here is a picture of it sitting on the balcony of our
hotel room...so you can see the full view.
It makes me think of a church alter..it's so beautiful

Found these lovely little trophys at a garage sale
for....you will never believe it...
10 cents a piece!!!!!

I bought all 4 and handed her 50 cents and told
her to keep the change...I still feel so guilty for
only paying 50 cents for all of them...
they are just so awesome

Another completely incredible find my girlfriend Soni
spotted...and just like she thought...it looks amazing in the house!
A Candlelier...just right for the bathroom

Right next to the $6 dollar Goodwill curtain my
girlfriend Kerri and I found...

Driftwood, turtle shell, birds nest coral and beach bottles....
OH MY!!!!

And don't forget the antlers....it's been quite the
eclectic summer can't you tell....
Check out Kerri's blog
about our adventures
at Scott's Antique Market...

It's an AWESOME place...
I highly recommend you make a trip
Of course I had my very best friend to go with...
and that made it even that much better!

And YES!!!!!!!!
I found the Tobacco Basket that I was
searching for...it even made it in the back
of sweet husband's truck for the 15 hour drive home...
through the rain no less!

Can I just tell you how big this basket is...
holy cow!  This is just it's temporary home
till I can find it's proper place...and what
a big place it's going to have to be!

Stay tuned for Part 2....
there are even more finds!!

Vacations, Computer Issues and Hibernation

So that pretty much sums up
what i've been doing and why
you haven't heard much from me!

But we are home now after
a whirlwind 10 days...
we traveled 15 hours to
North Carolina, had a
WONDERFUL time there, than sweet
husband drove me 4 hours to Georgia
to stay with my girlfriend while he drove
9 hours home...than 2 days later drove
9 hours back to get us...slept and drove us
9 hours home!  That's a sweet husband
to do that for me so I could visit my friend and her family!

But when we came home our internet service was down for
a week....which maybe was a good thing because
I had LOTS and LOTS of laundry.
Not to mention the hibernation/refluffing of
the house i've been experiencing!

We found lots of treasures while away...so
the evening we came home till now i've been
placing them around the house...and changing things
up...you know just having a grand ole time restyling the house!
When I finish I promise to show you all the
treasures and their new homes...

But until then I wanted to show you
some pictures I took while away

Bonaventure Cemetery,
Savannah, Georgia

Forsyth Park,
Savannah, Georgia

The Cloister Belle,
Sea Island, Georgia

Hope you all are having a wonderful summer..
full of beautiful sunsets and wonderful moments
with friends and family!
