World Map Desk

We are
FINALLY
entering the homestretch in the makeover
of my son's bedroom.
It has dragged on for weeks.

My plan is to hit Ikea (YIPPEE) this weekend to purchase the baskets for his new bookcases,
the blinds for the windows, and a desk chair.

After that we only have a little bit left to do then I promise to show you the room!

In the meantime I've been looking for a desk to fit under his window....and I couldn't seem to find one that was the right size and price.  Little did I know the right piece was here all the time...
it just needed a little fixing up!

Remember this nightstand I found a while back??

Well after discussing with my "client" what he would and
would not like for me to do with the desk....I came up with this

I took an Atlas and cut out the maps that he liked.  Then Mod Podge'd them on to the top and front of the drawers.  After that I took left over stain from the bookcase project and antiqued the maps.
Then a couple more coats of Mod Podge to seal the maps.

Then
(and this probably isn't the proper way to do this...but I needed instant results)
I took the stain again and went over the wood to cover the nicks and scratches that the desk had from it's previous life. And surprisingly enough it worked!  Now it matches the finish on the bed.

The final step was to attach wheels to the bottom, to not only raise it up to the right height,
but also so he can move it around the room.

He loves his new desk.  Maybe now he won't complain about doing his homework....
yeah right!

To Paint or Not To Paint????

Now that the kids are back in school I finally get to go thrifting again!
YIPPEE!!!!!!!!!!!!

While at Goodwill Friday I found this beautiful dresser......it begged me to bring it home!

Now here's the problem.
I am having major guilt over painting it.

For it to look right in my house it needs to be white.
And it will be so beautiful painted white.

BUT

Look at how lovely the wood is

What should I do?
Get over the guilt and paint it?
Or leave it because painting it would be Oh So Wrong to cover this wood?

HELP!

This awesome cake plate came home with me too....
thank goodness the only decision I have to make with it is what to place on it!

What should I do???

Fairy Furniture

I'm off my meds again....just kidding!
Although after you see what I've spent the last two days doing
you all might think I need to take some sort of medication.

But the kids and I are having so much fun collecting materials and making things.
They had so much fun last night I let them stay up WAY past their bedtimes.

We've been making Fairy Furniture for the Fairy Garden.
This is the bed we made with found sticks, twine,
an old hard book cover, hot glue and
fake fall leaves that we used to make a "quilt" to go on the bed.

The nightstands we made with big old buttons and thimbles.
The donuts and pink lemonade are just perfect for a late night fairy snack.

And this is the potting table we made.
I still need to glue all the little things on so they don't go missing.
Fairies can be very mischievous!

The little stool out of buttons was my daughter's idea and own creation.
Actually, all the credit belongs to my children....
Cause the other day when I was shopping for fairy furniture
they asked me why I was going to buy it because fairies
make stuff out of what they find.

Those kids are just to smart for me!

p.s...the music that's playing (Loreena Mckennit - The Mummers' Dance)
this is what I think the fairies like to dance to at night....

Old Trucks

Having lots of faith in the thrifting gods like I do
I know that one day the perfect old truck will come along
at the right time for the right price.
At least I'm keeping my fingers crossed that it will....

We could decorate it for Christmas and pick up the Christmas Tree with it

Our $500.00 Cantaloupe

Alright...so anyone who has ever been a beginner in starting a garden will understand this.
TONS of work every weekend......TONS of money spent making the garden.......TONS of time spent watering the garden everyday.....TONS of time spent daydreaming about the next project in the garden.....
and now finally....my very expensive, time consuming first piece of fruit from the garden...
Sweet Husband and I both freaked out when we saw it...guess neither one of us had much confidence in this little project ( I really have a black thumb)

We both were so excited to show the kids!!!
Let's all keep our fingers crossed that nothing gets it before we can harvest it.

I'm just so excited about it I can't being to tell you....
I guess it's really about the little things in life.

Shabby Chic Baby Shower

Do you remember my post about the beautiful cabinet I bought from my friend?
Well, this weekend I was invited to her baby shower.
Between all the food and fun baby shower festivities I was only able to take a few pictures of her shabby chic furniture.  I hope she will let me go back soon and take more...she has an incredible beautiful house.  Especially the babies room...it's just perfect!
Here are just a few of the numerous items I was coveting...

Now I have to tell you the funny part of the shower and hope she doesn't get mad at me...
but it's too cute not to share.

Jamie (who's beautiful house this is and the new mommy) comes up to me when I arrive and says...
I'm having a tea party!  How fun I tell her when are you having one?  Right now she says and I have no idea how to make tea can you do it for me?  I've never had to do it before they just pour it for me at the Ritz!

God I LOVE HER!  She is just to cute!
So in honor of Jamie here is how you make a perfect pot of tea.

Thanks for sharing your home with us Jamie.
Baby Ava is so very blessed to have such a wonderful Mom and Dad!
